Bible Reading Psalm 34-35; Acts 22
“O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Psalm 34:8 (KJV)
Experience is the best teacher. I had an experience several years ago and it made such an impact on me. A minister of God approached me and asked me to give him money to buy his ticket to travel abroad. We knew each other but I felt, going for holiday was not a necessity that one should ask someone else to fund. And so I made up my mind not to give anything and that if I had to give at all, it was going to be very minimal.
But surprisingly, God spoke to me the following day and asked me to give his son a given amount. I was surprised no doubt but promptly obeyed! When the man came back, he gave me several gifts that he bought for me and I was quite impressed. A few years ago, a sister of mine had a similar experience and asked me what to do while already thinking the way I thought back then. Well it was easy for me to answer her; I told her to please seek the face of God and not just treat it with levity.
Armed with this experience, I know that David must know what he was talking about particularly if we relate to his experience in the same chapter. He said in Psalm 34:6 (KJV), “This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.” Based on this, he asks everyone to taste the Lord and experience his goodness. Tasting the Lord implies accepting Him as your Lord and Saviour and living in line with the scripture! He puts a further condition; you must Trust God. Trusting God means depending on Him for all things and in all situations. And the reward is that you will be blessed.
When God blesses you, no man can change it. Romans 8:31-32 (KJV) says, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? [32] He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
This does not mean that there will not be challenges or issues but God will always meet you at the point of your needs. It may not be the way you want it but it will surely be the best way for you because He knows your tomorrow which you don’t know! He cannot forget you once you trust in Him. God said to his prophet in Isaiah 49:15 (KJV), “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.” So God cannot forsake you as long as you trust in Him. That’s why David wrote in Psalm 34:8 (KJV) “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” If you have tasted the Lord and not experiencing goodness, please check your obedience to His words because God is good to everyone with a clean heart! (Psalm 73:1).
Action point: If you have not tasted the Lord, please come to Him and seek for refuge in His presence and begin to experience His goodness.
