…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: Psalm 78; Romans 7.

Memory Verse: “Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?” Psalm 78:20 KJV

The Bible has a replete record of those who doubted God. Even the Nation of Israel doubted God. When they were in Egypt, God performed several miracles ( Exodus 7-11) that eventually led to their release by the Egyptians. They witnessed all these and when there was a challenge, they did not remember what God had done for them in Egypt but rather focused on immediate resolution of their problem.

Thus, when they faced Red Sea in front and Egyptians warriors at the back, they forgot the miracles of the past which God had done for them and they went into complaints. They said to Moses in Exodus 14:12 (KJV), “Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.” Soon after God took them through the red sea and drowned the Egyptian warriors behind them, they forgot this and were looking for meat! They said in Psalm 78:20 (KJV), “Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?”

Some believers behave the same way the Israelites did, forgetting all the miracles and blessings God had given them and complaining about their current situation. Are you one of those facing challenges now and it appears God is not answering your prayers; therefore you are doubting ability of God to address your situation. Such doubts could be expressed outrightly like the Israelites or by seeking alternatives to God. In all situations always check yourself. If you are walking with God remembering Romans 8:28 (KJV), “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” He will always do the best for you! However, if you are out of step with him, then start by repenting and reconciling with him and see how things turn out. In all cases, recognize that with God nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37). However he is sovereign and may not attend to your needs the way you expect.

Learn from the Hebrew boys when they were to be thrown into the fiery furnace for their refusal to serve any other God. They said in Daniel 3:17-18 (KJV), “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. [18] But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”

Action point:
Examine yourself and repent asking for mercy where you have doubted God.
