Bible Reading: Psalm 90-92; Romans 11:1-21.
Memory Verse: “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 (KJV)
In January this year, I attended a senior’s 90th birthday and in the party was a close friend of his who would also clock 90 years in March 2024. At that party he was announcing to us he would be celebrating his 90th birthday the following year and we all took it for granted. But by May this year, he fell ill and died. He never witnessed the 90th birthday no matter the plan he had made. No wonder James says in James 4:13-14 (KJV), “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: [14] Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow.” For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
That is to remind us that man has no control whatsoever over his lifetime. Whenever you sleep and wake up or go out and come back in, you should thank God and appreciate Him because it’s by his mercy that we remain alive! David said to God in Psalm 8:4 (KJV), “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” This is why you should take each day as a gift and live a life of Joy, showing love to everyone around you and living in peace with them. Our journey on earth is so short that we should not be greedy in acquiring anything. After all, whatever you acquire, you will end up leaving on earth without further control!
The man I referred to in the opening paragraph was quite wealthy with a lot of choice cars but he can no longer determine who drives or what happens to any of those cars! I recently watched a short video reminding me that in 150 years, none of the things we cherish now will be of any consequence then. In fact most people would have been completely forgotten no matter their position on earth. So why are you holding to your position on that issue? Why are you dragging that asset or money with that brother of yours? Why are you holding grudge against that person and why are you determined to avenge yourself? Even if your ego is bruised today, who will remember it in thirty, forty, fifty years? No wonder the Bible says in Psalm 90:12 (KJV), “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Your appointment with death does not depend on your age, status, race or even faith but God. The Bible says in James 4:15 (KJV), “For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.”
While you may not determine how long you stay on earth, you can decide where you will spend the rest of your life after leaving the earth! Heaven or Hell! If you have surrendered your life to Jesus and remain true to him in Spirit, He guarantees your eternity but if you are yet to accept him, you need to do so urgently now to avoid evil destination!
Action Point:
Surrender your life to Jesus repenting of your sins and accepting Him as your Lord and Saviour and continuously serve Him in truth and in Spirit.
