Bible Reading: Psalm 99-102; Romans 13.
Memory Verse: “Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.” Romans 13:7 (KJV)
I found out that quite a number of people including some Christians in my country, Nigeria do not pay taxes or the correct taxes under the guise that government does not use the fund collected judiciously. While some of the allegations may be correct, it is not an excuse for not obeying God. Two wrongs do not make a right.
The commandment in Romans 13:7 (KJV) is, “Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due ; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.” It does not have any condition attached to it. If you are a true disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, you will obey all the laws of the land as long as it is not against God.
Some employees are helped to dodge taxes by their employers while others do it directly by either filling the forms wrongly or not filling at all. For others, they also evade other fees and payments levied by the government. This amounts to disobedience and you need to repent and ensure compliance going forward. Stop joining the unbelievers to do evil against your country. Rather, be one of the few compliant citizens willing to encourage others to join the train!
You are also expected to give due respect to your constituted authority and be obedient to their lawful instructions. This involves obeying regulations that are emplaced by such authorities. Simple things like obeying traffic lights, registering as a citizen when required or supporting government initiatives when required as long as it is lawful and not against your worship of theAlmighty God, you are expected to obey.
Action Point: Review your daily activities and identify areas of disobedience to constituted authority. Make up your mind to obey going forward and ask God to see you through.
