Bible Reading: Psalm 119:1-48; 1 Corinthians 3.
Memory Verse: “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. [7] So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.” 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (KJV)
Your body is made up of several parts including eyes, ears, brain, liver, legs among others. Each of these has its functions and they are all interrelated in such a way that make you a complete human being. Your eyes cannot function on its own, if it is removed from your head it loses its value. Same thing applies to each and every part of your body. They perform optimally their functions when they reside in your body.
That is similar to the way God has created the church. It is to function as a body and it will do well when it sees itself as one. Not when one arm will not like to deal with another arm. We can see when the initial division was about to be created by some disciples of Paul and Apollos. They divided themselves based on who they followed. Paul quickly corrected them and made them to understand that they were all working for the same kingdom. His admonition in 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (KJV) is pertinent: “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. [7] So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.” None of the Ministers, Overseers, Apostles, Senior Pastors , Prophets among others amount to anything without Christ. Everyone will receive his reward from the Creator. (1Corinthians 3:8-9). So why the division in denominations? We should see ourselves as brothers and sisters in Christ laboring for the same goal. This is well stated by Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 12:12 (KJV), “For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.”
The Holy Spirit that binds us together is in each of us and bears the same fruit stated in Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV), “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” This is what should guide us in our walk with Jesus always.
We should, therefore, seek for elimination of strives and divisions in the body of Christ and focus on winning the world for God. If you have therefore caused division in the body of Christ in any way, it’s important that you make necessary amendments and use your energy to focus on unity. Every believer in Christ should be seen as your brethren and we should live in love.
Prayer point: Father, please remove every cause of disunity among brethren and unite your church in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
