Bible Reading: Proverbs 28-29; 2 Corinthians 7
Memory verse: “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy” Proverbs 28:13 (KJV)
We live in a fallen world; man is ever trying to overcome the problem of sin. But as long as we are in the flesh sin will always be an issue to deal with. However, God has made provision for us in the person of His Son Jesus Christ whose ransom sacrifice has set us free from the condemnation of sin and death to a life of relationship with God.
Does this mean that we will not sin? No! rather, we are expected to come before God in humility acknowledging our sins and committing our ways and life to Him through His Son Jesus Christ. He died for our sins; even when He was sinless God had to put the whole burden of sin from man on Him. His death and resurrection has made it possible for man to live as if he has never sinned. However, this is not a license to go on sinning.
We are commanded to confess our sins whenever we sin if we want to make progress with God. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy” Proverbs 28:13 (KJV). Not confessing one’s sins in sincere repentance gives the enemy an advantage over one’s life because such a life will be lived in hypocrisy. Moreso, mercy, though available, would be out of reach to such a person. Mercy of God helps take the hands of the enemy off our shoulders. It is important to confess your sins to God as this makes the grace of God and His mercy to work in your favour.
Unconfessed sin is a sin that one has decide not to truly repent of. For if you cannot confess it then you are not ready to repent of it. That means you are not yet ready for spiritual progress with God. No matter the mistake you may have committed, God is always ready to forgive. That is why He sent His Son to clear off all impediments to our coming to Him. And Paul reminded us that “…sin shall not have dominion over you; for ye are not under the law, but under grace” Romans 6:14 (KJV). But you must be willing to clear your heart of whatever hidden and unconfessed sin somewhere in your heart to be received in full by Him.
Action Point: Are there any unconfessed sin(s) in your life? Write them out and present them before God in fasting and prayer with sincerity of heart.
