Bible Reading:Ezekiel 47-48; 1 John 1
Memory Verse: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 KJV
Darkness is the opposite of light. To understand walking in the light therefore let’s look at walking in darkness.
To walk in darkness is to live and act according to such ignorance, error, and erroneous practice that are contrary to the fundamental dictates of our Christian faith. Now there may be those who may pretend to great attainments and enjoyments in Christianity; they may profess to have communion with God; and yet their lives may be immoral, and impure.
Walking in the light therefore is living and acting in complete obedience to the word of God; living a moral, pure and a faithful life. Apostle John stated in 1 John 1:5 (KJV), “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” So to truly walk in light means walking with God and not in flesh. “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, [20] idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, [21] envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21 KJV) These will not be found in such lives.
Rather your life should be full of the fruit of the Spirit as enumerated in Galatians 5:22-23 KJV “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
It is therefore important that you should continuously do self examination to know what fruit you bear so that necessary amendment can be done on time. Like Apostle John said, one cannot be walking in the light and simultaneously be bearing any of the works of flesh enumerated above. Anyone who does that is a liar and the truth is not in him. “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:” 1 John 1:6 KJV.
Action Point:
Are you walking in the light? If not; repent now and let Jesus Christ cleanse you from all unrighteousness and begin a new life in Christ.
