Bible Reading: Hosea 9-11; Revelation 2.
Memory Verse: “Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.” Revelation 2:16 KJV
Repent means to sorrow or be pained for sin, as a violation of God’s holy law, a dishonor to His character and government and the foulest ingratitude to a Being of infinite benevolence. Some people think repentance can only be associated with unbelievers but the truth is that it applies to both believers and unbelievers. The Lord was talking to the church of Pergamos who were known for their good works and had not denied the faith but had some sins and were told in Revelation 2:16 (KJV), “Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.”
This is the time for self examination because the Christiandom is full of believers who have fallen asleep and therefore tolerating all sorts of things that are against the will of God. We have those who profess to be Christians but are still engaged in fornication and adultery, stealing things from their places of work or even church, harboring grudges against their neighbour, lying, cheating, unthankful and generally unholy just as stated in 2 Timothy 3:1-4; the Bible says we should turn away from such people. Are you one of those or is your issue not mentioned above but also constitutes a sin, then you need to repent urgently.
Satan is busy rapidly getting more people into his kingdom of darkness by enticing them with material things and/or subtly wearing them down so that they will end up not knowing when they are completely backslided. Brethren, this is a wake up call, repent of whatever will not allow you to make heaven now! It’s between you and your God . You don’t have to announce it but your changed lifestyle will publicize you positively.
It does not matter your position in the church or how deep you have gone with Satan though people believe you are in love with God, you need to repent so that you do not spend eternity in regrets, shame and damnation. Better to bear the reproach of men now than experiencing eternal pain! Remember the rich man in Luke 16: 23-31; it was late for him to repent or even save his brethren! What are you doing to save yourself and others who are following your footsteps? Repent!
Prayer point: I repent of my sins (mention them) and decide to obey you completely from now on, please help me Lord!
