Bible Reading: Genesis 3-5; Matthew 2
Memory verse: “And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.” Matthew 2:12 (KJV)
Each time I come across bible verses telling how God, the creator of the whole universe, came down to men warning or giving them instructions on what next to do or not to do, I am amazed. The Psalmist too must have thought long enough about this and asked in Psalms 8:4 (KJV), “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?”
As creator, God cares about each and every one of His creations; be it people or things. He has a purpose for every man. Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV) says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” He hopes to see the very beautiful expected end of all His creations. God cares about all of us, even from birth. He protected the baby Jesus from harm.
When He saw the heart of King Herod toward the new born baby He came to the wise men in the dream to take another way rather than return to Herod who had earlier promised them to go find the baby and bring report back to him so he could go and worship the baby. But God saw his heart and came to the rescue. Matthew 2:12 (KJV) says, “And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.”
God warned Cain when he showed signs of evil and wickedness in his heart towards his brother Abel. He saw where that kind of thought will lead him and came early to warn him. Sadly, Cain still held on to his anger and ended up committing murder. Unlike the wise men who heeded God’s warning and did not return to Herod thereby escaped being accomplices to murder, Cain ignored God’s warning and brought a curse upon himself.
What is God warning you about today? That warning could be because what you intend to do will go against His plan and may bring a curse! You never know how far and dangerous disobedience to God’s warning is. You can save or kill a life by how you respond to God’s warnings today. For God to come down to warn you then you must be very important to Him and His plans for you. No wonder He sent Jesus to us to save us from our sins and come back to Him so He can begin to speak with us again as He always wants to do. Are you heeding the warnings of His Son Jesus?
Prayer: O LORD, engrace me to take heed of every instruction and warnings from your throne so that I may not work against your will in Jesus name.
