Bible Reading: Genesis 31-32; Matthew 10:24-42

Memory verse: “And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred, and I will be with thee” Genesis 31:3 (KJV)

Each time I read about Abraham, Isaac and Jacob I see something common among this great fathers of old; their ability to hear and follow God. This started with Abraham, who passed the same trait to his son, Isaac, who has now passed it to his son Jacob. In fact, God said of Abraham, “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgement; that the LORD  may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him” Genesis 18:19 (KJV).

Abraham heard and followed God out of his father’s house to a place unknown (Genesis 12). It became a journey into blessing, not only for him but for generations unborn. To sustain it his son, Isaac must follow in his footsteps which he did by adhering to God’s word not to leave a land where there is famine while everybody around him was leaving to escape the famine. There, God blessed him and established the covenant He had with Abraham with him. Now is the turn of Jacob, a man who had been severely cheated by his uncle, yet he never did any wrong while he served. God came to him and commanded him to return into the land of his fathers. But there is a problem here.

Jacob earlier, fled from the land of his fathers after usurping his brother Esau and taking the blessings of his brother. Besides, Esau is now the man of the house since Isaac is now very old. But now God Himself has told him to go back there that He will be with him. God has a reason for asking him to come back to his father’s house. As long as God has spoken it doesn’t matter what you have done before or not. Just as He asked Moses to go back into Egypt and bring His people out, but because of his history in Egypt Moses feared. God cares about you more than you can even think of. his will coming to pass through you is His main aim, not what you did or didnt do.

No matter what you may have done in the past listen to what God is saying in the present. He cares so much about you our Lord Jesus says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. [30] But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. [31] Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows” Matthew 10:29-31 (KJV). As long as you have heard God speak to you all you have to do is go where He asked you to for He is waiting for you at the other side for your next instruction and assignment.

How many times has God asked you to do that which to you is impossible? Remember, with God nothing shall be impossible. He will always keep to His word that you have kept faith with. He speaks everyday, but brings to pass only those words which we have believed and done. Even if you do not believe, do the words and you will see Him manifest in your life.

Prayer: Father, help me to believe and act on Your word at all times in Jesus name.
