Memory verse: “I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” Isaiah 42:8 (KJV)
Everything in the world belongs to God almighty. Whatever we have today He gave us to make use of in assisting fellow humans while acknowledging Him as the rightful owner. The Bible advises us in Proverbs 3:6 (KJV) ” In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Acknowledging God is an important way of giving Him glory.
The story of King Nebuchadnezzar who looked at his kingdom and boasted. “The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?” Daniel 4:30 (KJV). While the word was in his mouth judgement came upon him pronouncing madness upon him (Daniel 4:30-31). The Bible says, “The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.” Daniel 4:33 (KJV). While God allows you to enjoy His gift to you all He requires in return is your giving glory back to Him.
Not giving God glory cost Herod his life. He made an oration one day and Acts 12:22-23 (KJV) tells us, “And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.” Be careful how you receive the praise of men. All praises belong to God.
In today’s bible reading Joseph, who just got out of prison met Pharoah who told him, “…I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.” Young Joseph immediately returned the glory to the giver of gifts. The Bible tells us, “And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” Genesis 41:16 (KJV) The result was that Joseph became the number 2 man in Egypt and a ruler in a foreign land.
Always give God glory for everything and in every thing.
Prayer: Father, grace to give you glory at all times in Jesus name.
