Topic: Life after death
Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 15-16; Luke 20:27-47.
Memory Verse: “For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.” Luke 20:38 (KJV) .
Many often ask what happens after death? The bible is so clear about this when Jesus told the Pharisees about a rich man and a beggar named Lazarus. After death the beggar was carried into the bossom of Abraham while the rich man, upon his death found himself in hell. ( Luke 16:19-26). So upon death, each person’s soul will go to either hell or paradise and will live there. This is why the Lord Jesus stated in Luke 20:38 (KJV), “For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.”
Everyone will live again after death. The question is what type of life would you live after death. This is evident in the story above. While the rich man found himself in hell, the beggar was carried to the bossom of Abraham in paradise! Would you be like the rich man who was begging for Lazarus’s tip drop of his finger in water to cool his tongue for he was in torment in flame ( Luke 16:24). Or like Lazarus, the beggar who had peace in the bossom of Abraham. ( Luke 16:23). Therefore, to all those who die before the second coming of Jesus Christ, the body will remain in the grave while the soul will go to paradise or hell. Jesus Christ told one of the malefactors that asked the Lord to remember him when He gets to his kingdom “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43 (KJV) .
The founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pa Joshua Akindayomi died in October 1980 and he was shown his mansion in heaven by angels but was asked to come back to the world to apologise to another man of God who had burnt the Christian tracts he printed several years before his death. He came back alive, gave the testimony and prepared the church for his final exit and he died the following month in November 1980.
So upon death, you will go to one of two places, paradise or hell but there is torment in hell, so choose Paradise. To do this you need to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and continuously seek his face living a holy life. Be prepared.
Prayer Point:
LORD, please remove from me, everything that may prevent me from making heaven in Jesus name.
