TOPIC: KEEP YOUR HEART BURNING FOR GOD
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 10-11; Luke 24:1-35
Memory verse: “And they said one to another, did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?” Luke 24:32 (KJV)
The heart of man is very important to God. It is the place God sees in a man and gives him according as he had purposed in his heart. Proverb 4:23 (KJV) says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” From the heart comes out issues that may make or mar our destinies. However, we have been given the responsibility of keeping our heart.
Earlier, we read in the bible the Solomon loved the LORD. Love is a thing of the heart. It is a passion and commitment to hold and remain in God. No wonder God appeared to him twice. Sadly, Solomon fell short of diligently keeping his heart for God as he went against God’s scriptural commands. 1 Kings 1:1-2 (KJV) tells us, “But King Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, woman of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonites, and Hittites. [2] Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these women in love.”
The effect of Solomon’s action was seen in verse 3b, “and his wives turned away his heart.” This was the same man that God appeared to twice! His flagrant disregard for the warnings of God gave Solomon away. No matter how wise you think you are you cannot be wiser than God! He is the Only wise God (Jude 25). When you start ignoring the word of God something else comes in. Solomon’s heart was taken over by his love for his wives who serve idols. Before long, he too was worshipping idols.
Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, let Christ be the centre focus of your heart. The words of Christ was burning in their heart despite the situation in Jerusalem at that time. They were bent on understanding the things Jesus told them before then and trying to make sense of the happenings around them.
Never leave your heart vacant; always fill it with the word of God and the thoughts of God and His Son, Jesus Christ and your heart will continue burning for God.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, fill my heart with Your words always.
