TOPIC: WHO ARE DEPENDING ON?
Bible Reading: 2 Kings 1-3; John 3:22-36
Memory verse: “Thou shall have no other gods before me” Exodus 20:3 (KJV)
The worship of other gods is one act that brought destruction and death to people in time past and still does today. God has not changed; the same commandment He gave to the Israelites with respect to worship is still the same today. “Thou shall have no other gods before me” still applies to us today.
King Ahaziah in today’s bible reading, knew about God and what He wrought through His servant Prophet Elijah, yet when he had issues he did not remember the One true God nor His servant. 2 kings 1:2 (KJV) says, “And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, inquire of Baazebub the god of Ekron whether shall recover of this disease.” His injury arising from a fall from his balcony made him to go consult Baalzebub.
Its is sad that while many of us call on the name of God, deep down when trouble comes we don’t even remember Him anymore, rather we go below our true nature, created in the image and likeness of God, and run after other created things instead of the Creator Himself. Ahaziah sent messengers to go inquire of Baazebub, the Lord of flies, if he will recover from the accident, forgetting that the throne he is sitting on is overseen by God. That became the end of Ahaziah.
Truth is, challenges will come at a point in time in a man’s life but who do you depend or trust in when it comes? What are you even depending on now as a person? Unlike Ahaziah, please learn to depend on the God the kings of Israel and Judah like David and Asa depended on in time past that made them relevant till today. If you want to be relevant and overcome challenges, depend on God and that challenge will not see your end.
Prayer: Father, search deep down my heart and expose every hidden part of me that is secretly admiring any god in Jesus name.
