TOPIC: THE INESTIMABLE PRICE OF REDEMPTION
Bible Reading: Psalm 47-49; Acts 26
“None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: (for the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth forever:)” Psalm 49:7-8(KJV).
Our above focal scripture vividly captures the high price of redemption that cannot be bought with any corruptible thing. The penalty placed on sin is death (Ezekiel 18:20) and as such it is not purchasable by corrupt materials like gold or silver. The price of sin requires a ransom to take the place of the sinner, in order to redeem him. Such ransom itself should not be a victim of sin and its consequent penalty. Our focal scripture points out that the redemption of human soul is precious and unattainable by riches. The price for sin therefore requires the blood of a righteous man to atone for the sin of man. Romans 3:10-18 elucidated on the depraved state of man without exception.
In Romans 3:23 Apostle Paul stated the obvious, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” As stated by our focal scripture no one under this state by any means can redeem his brother nor give God a ransom. In Leviticus 17:11(KJV) the bible says, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh atonement for the soul.” However, the scriptures says in Hebrews 10:4(KJV), “For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sin.” This is what prompted Apostle Paul to state in Romans 3:25(KJV), “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;” Christ became our ransom through whom redemption was purchased for man.
God Himself paid the price tag on sin for the redemption of man, giving His Son as a ransom or a substitute for us. By the death of Christ God reconciled us to Himself and endowed us with the righteousness of Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21). It is no wonder then that the bible says in Romans 8:1(KJV), “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who worked not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” The price of redemption is inestimable; hence it is not within the power of man to provide. It took the priceless blood of Jesus Christ to redeem the soul. The price of eternal soul and immortality of the body, is too high for riches to buy it is the work of grace initiated and championed by the love of God (John 3:16).
Prayer Point: Father, grant me the grace to always be conscious of the price you paid for my sin.
