Topic: Enemies Of God
Bible Reading: Psalm 68-69; Romans 3.
Memory Verse: “Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.” Psalm 68:1 (KJV) .
An enemy is one who lives in opposition to another, hating that other and seeking to harm him. God is love, but He still has enemies and he described his enemies in different verses of the Bible. The first on the list is Satan. However many human beings are also enemies of God because they engage in things that God hates. The enemies of God are succinctly stated in Romans 1:29-32 (KJV), “Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, [30] Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, [31] Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: [32] Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” Being a sinner or one of those who engage in things hated by God qualifies the person as an enemy of God.
Do you engage in any of the sins enumerated above? Or any other activity against the word of God, then you are an enemy of God. Such enemies are also referred to as the adversary or the wicked. And his word says in Psalm 68:1 (KJV), “Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.” He said further, “As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.” Psalm 68:2 (KJV)
So whatever the enemy of God may achieve, he/she will perish at His presence and there is no way anyone can escape the presence of God because he is Omni-present! Then the only sensible option for any person is not to be an enemy of God.
The good thing however is that God extends his salvation to everyone including his enemies. This is why he said in Matthew 11:28 (KJV), “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” You can switch camp this moment from being an enemy and becoming a friend of God! All you need is to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, confess to him those things that make you his enemy and ask for his forgiveness and make a promise to forsake those things going forward asking him to help you do so.
Thereafter, ensure you study the Bible so that you know him more and also know how to conform to the image of Christ. Please pray to God as follows: Father, I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour as I do not want to be your enemy anymore. Please forgive me my sins and give me the grace to live as your friend for the rest of my life in Jesus name.
Prayer point:
Father, please separate me from whatever will make me your enemy in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
