Topic: When do you remember God?
Bible Reading: Psalm 78; Romans 7.
Memory Verse: “They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.” Psalm 78:42 (KJV)
A man was experiencing some difficulty eking out a living that he went to a traditional priest to make money rituals for him. He did but he did not become rich rather he was experiencing a protruding stomach and he was brought to a Pentecostal church. The Pastor prayed with him after he disclosed what led to the problem and he gave his life to Christ. Thereafter he became a regular church goer until a few months later that it was observed, he was no longer coming to church. Then he was visited to find out what happened.
He welcomed the Pastor and those who went with him and when asked why he was no longer coming to church, he said he came to church when he was sick but since he became well, he didn’t see why he should be coming to church again. Besides, he had gone to repeat the money ritual having been told that he swallowed the initial charms they gave to him wrongly and he had swallowed the new one rightly. And truly, his financial situation had changed. So he insisted not coming to church again.
Some years down the line, the man travelled out of the country because the time of death given to him was near and he felt the demon would not be able to catch him in a foreign land but he died in the plane!
Many professed Christians are like this man, they remember God only when they are in trouble. As soon as the problem is over, they begin to live a life against the will of God. This was how the Israelites also behaved when they left Egypt. The Psalmist stated this in Psalm 78:40-41 (KJV), “How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! [41] Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.” They forgot how He delivered them from the captivity in Egypt and how He provided for them thus far. Psalm 78:42 (KJV) says, “They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.”
Are you like the Israelites who only remember God when they have a challenge? Nobody knows his last day on earth. It is important therefore that you reconcile with Him now so that you can end well. It is not late, you can repent and give your life to Christ today or rededicate your life if you have given your life to Christ but backslided.
Prayer point:
Father have mercy on me, forgive and give me the grace to obey you always from this moment in Jesus name.
