Topic: Word of Promise
Bible Reading: Psalm 85-87; Romans 9.
Memory Verse: “For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.” Romans 9:9 (KJV)
One of my children was trying to sell an asset to generate cash for a transaction and came to me that he was not getting buyer on time. I made a promise to give him the money and he can use the proceeds from sale of his asset for something else when he was able to sell. Before we finished our discussion on other things, I made good my promise by transferring the money to his account. He was surprised at the speed of the transfer but for me it was a promise kept. The sum was sizable but within my capability.
Now to God who has all things within his reach, when He makes a promise, He fulfills it though it may tarry. In the case of Abram, God promised to give him a child and He did so after twenty five years of Promise. Though it appeared forgotten and impossible to Sarah, God fulfilled His promise at His time. He said in Romans 9:9 (KJV), “For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.” And He did fulfill his promise to Abraham and Sarah. He will fulfill his promise to you too if only you can hold unto Him. It may tarry but it will surely come to pass.
Several years ago, I was planning to leave my employment to start a new business and God told me He would increase the price of the shares of a company my new company was planning to acquire about eighteen fold. It was difficult to believe then going by the fact that the company was almost folding up but we believed God and acquired it. In less than three years, what God said came to pass though there were numerous challenges which we surmounted.
So whatever is the promise God has given you directly or you have appropriated in the word of God ( fulfilling the conditions attached to it) will be fulfilled by Him. All you need is to have faith even when conditions appear contrary to the promise. Remember in one of our passages for today, God said in Romans 9:26 (KJV), “And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.” So you are now a child of God if you believe in Him and you can lay claim to the promises for the children of God. Similarly, Romans 9:33 (KJV) says, “As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” Do you believe in Him, then you cannot be ashamed as long as you live in accordance with His word as a true believer.
These and more promises are for you to appropriate and He will fulfill them in your life provided you have faith in Him. However, if you have not accepted Him as your Lord and Saviour, you cannot lay claim to any of His promises; but it’s not late yet, all you need is to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, repent of your sins and promise to live a life of obedience to His word going forward.
Action Point:
Keep thanking and praising God while holding unto Him for His promises to you and begin to experience the fulfillment of those promises.
