Topic: Do you hear His voice (Part 1)
Bible Reading: Psalm 93-95; Romans 11:22-36.
Memory Verse: ”My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” John 10:27 (KJV).
God speaks to us in different ways and He wants us to listen to Him and obey His words or instructions. When a father is talking to his child, he hears, recognises his voice and understands his message. His recognition of the father’s voice is based on the fact that he has heard him several times and so over time came to recognize him. Similarly, when you spend time with God and stay with Him several times, you will recognize His voice. That is why the Bible says of Jesus Christ in John 10:27 (KJV), “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”
Just like your earthly father, the heavenly Lord speaks to us in different ways: generally, it could be through still small voice in our heart, Here, the voice will speak to your heart in a very low tone. This is why you need to be attentive and sensitive to your spirit so that you can catch the message. While at mount Horeb, God spoke to Elijah in a still small voice in 1 Kings 19:12. In another way, God may speak to you through dream like He did to Solomon in 1 Kings 3:5 (KJV), “In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.” This is why you should recollect your dream when you wake up. If you are one of those who does not remember your dream when you wake up, then pray to God over it and also ensure you take time to study the Bible more. In other words, spend more time alone with God and He will restore your ability to remember your dreams.
God could also speak to you through your study of the Bible. As you are studying the word of God the Holy Spirit may minister to you the application of the words you just studied. This is why you should take time to study your Bible. Remember 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV), “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” In another way God may talk to you in a vision. You may be sitting down or engaged in an activity and God may just show you a vision sometimes as if you are in a trance but you are definitely not sleeping. This is how God showed Saul how He will revive his sight after he met the Lord Jesus on his way to Damascus. The Lord Jesus said to Ananias in Acts 9:11-12 (KJV), “And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, [12] And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.”
