“And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord reveal himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord” – 1 Samuel 3:21
From the above scriptures God had previously been appearing in Shiloh but stopped. The atrocities that was committed in Shiloh by the sons of Eli- Hophni and Phinehas resulted in the absence of divine presence. When Shiloh was established it was an instrument of dominion – Joshua 18:1(KJV) “And the whole congregation of the children of Irael assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them” The land was subdued because of the divine presence. Psalm 114:1-8(KJV) vividly describe the power of dominion Israel manifested due to the presence of God. Verse 1-2 says “When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language; Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion”. Judah means praise to God. The scriptures says that God inhabits the praise of his people – “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel” – Psalm22:3. It was no wonder then that Judah was his sanctuary and His presence made Israel His dominion. It is so then when the congregation of the people was set up in Shiloh, a place of worship to the most high God it brought about the land been subdued due to his presence. But all these became a thing of the past due to the ungodly living of the sons of Eli.
As Christians we carry the glory of God, this empowers us for dominion. The scriptures says in Colossians 2:9-10(KJV) “For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:” This is our enviable position in Christ. Many has abused this position and lost the glory of God in their lives. This abuse is as a result of sin which robs us of divine presence. We must jealously guide our enviable position in Christ by constantly seeking the leading of the Holy Spirit. We must be spiritually minded and exercise faith in God in all our dealings. Parents should learn from the error of Eli over his two sons.
Our Shiloh today is the place designated by God to bless us. You must locate your Shiloh where you will encounter God through his word. It is in our Shiloh that the Almighty shall rise to subdue our enemies before us. Shiloh is the place where our petition to God is heard and answered. The Almighty will appear to us in our Shiloh.
It is my prayer that God will grant us the grace to live for him all though our sojourn on earth.
