Topic: Praying for your Spiritual head
Bible Reading: Psalm 107-108; Romans 15:22-33.
Memory Verse: ”Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;” Romans 15:30 (KJV)
Some believers tend to assume their spiritual heads do not need prayers because of the unction of God upon them. This is quite untrue because the leaders have so many people and things that they need to pray for and because of this enormity, they may miss out on very important areas. It is therefore important that we should pray for them so that they may do justice to every area or person they need to supplicate or intercede for. Besides, it is commanded that we also pray for them because the Bible says in 1 Timothy 2:1-3 (KJV), “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; [2] For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. [3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;”
It is also imperative that we pray for them so that they may not go astray. All men are subject to temptations and trials. We need to pray for our leaders to be delivered from such. In addition, when their prayers are answered, it impacts positively on their members as those prayers will involve them. Thus, Apostle Paul asked the Romans to pray for him in Romans 15:30 (KJV), “Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;” The purpose of the prayer he requested was for safety and acceptance as shown in Romans 15:31 (KJV), “That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;”
As you support your spiritual head, you should also expect support from others because the Bible says in Proverbs 11:25 (KJV), “The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.” Are you praying for yourself regularly? Please note that you cannot pray for others if you do not pray for yourself. It is important, you pray for yourself as well as your spiritual head regularly.
