Topic: Passing Through Storms

Bible Reading: Psalm 139-141; 1 Corinthians 10:1-13

Memory Verse: “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:39 KJV

In Mark 4: 35-39; the Lord Jesus Christ told the disciples that they should cross the sea to other side and they sent away the multitude with them and sailed. While they were in the sheep, there arose a big storm and the Lord was asleep. They had to wake Him up to still the storm. So as a Christian, while you have Christ with you, as the disciples had him with them in the sheep, you should expect storms as the devil will like to test you to see if he can win you over from God or you will remain steadfast inspite of the test. You will recall that the Bible tells us that Job was a perfect and upright man who feared God and eschewed evil ( Job 1:1) and Satan tested him. He sent Job a storm that consumed his livestock (Job 1:13-17 KJV) his children ( Job 1: 18-19) and his health ( Job 2:7). But in all these, Job maintained his fear of God.

Storms can come in different dimensions; it could be financial, family, health or relationship among others. Since it happens to the disciples, then as a follower of Christ, you should expect it. It is not necessarily a sign of sin as we saw that Job was righteous when the storm hit his life and even the disciples were with Christ when the storm happened. When you face any storm, you need to examine yourself if you have transgressed any of God’s laws . If you are free of any offence, then you need to remain steadfast in your fellowship with Christ and ask Him to still the storm just as the disciples did. The reality is that every believer will pass through one challenge or the other but God will be with you once you are on His side. Isaiah 43:2 (KJV) says, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

Every storm is a stepping stone to greatness. You should focus on what you can learn from the storm as it is meant to prepare you for higher heights. Just like Job came out better after the storm, you will also come out better and stronger. While going through your storm, always remember that Jesus Christ was with the disciples in the boat when the storm raged fiercely and they were sore afraid that they had to call on Jesus who calmed the storm. In Mark 4:39 KJV, the Bible says “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. As long as he is in your boat, when the storm comes, call on him and he will still your storm at the best time. No matter how fierce the storm is, always remember the word of God in Romans 8:28 KJV “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Prayer point
Father, please still this storm of … (mention it) raging now in my in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
