Topic: Trust in God
Bible Reading; Proverbs 3-4, 1 Corinthians 13
Memory verse: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding” Proverbs 3:4 (KJV)
Trust means to ‘to hide for refuge, to put confidence in, to be bold or to obey.’ Trust is a higher dimension of faith. From the bible, we understand that Faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen“ Hebrews 11:1 (KJV). And faith, according to Romans 10:17 (KJV), “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The second ‘hearing’ here means understanding the things heard.
Trust comes by the trying of the word. Psalm 105:19 (KJV) says, “Until the time his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.” When the word comes and produces now it brings Faith. But when the same word that comes is not producing in the now, then it is trying you to bring you to trust in God. Thus, while faith requires your understanding, trust does not. Trust is mainly aimed at bringing you to a place where you now depend on the character or person of God.
While trust does not happen in the now, it has an ‘appointed’ time or season when it will manifest. Job 14:14b (KJV) tells us, “…all the days of my appointed time will I wait till my change comes.” In Trust the word does not produce its mate for now, but tries you till an appointed time. The appointed time is the season you have to wait and allow your heart to be tried to pass the test of trust before there will be a manifestation.
What are you trusting God for? Have you gone from faith to trust? You need to come to a point where you first understand His word because without faith you cannot please God. However, you must move on from there to trusting in His personality or character irrespective of whether you understand His word or not. That’s why Proverbs 3:4 (KJV) tells us, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Action Point: Find out the areas the word of God you have come to understand and believe but seem not to be producing for now. These are areas He is trying you. You must trust in His Person while holding on to the word to get to the appointed time of that area.
