Topic: God cares about the poor
Bible Reading: Proverbs 19-20; 1 Corinthians 3
Memory verse: “Wealth maketh many friends, but the poor is separated from his neighbour” Proverbs 19:4 (KJV)
The ways of God are very different from that of man. Yet, knowledge of His ways can be gotten from His word and by His Spirit. Proverbs 19:2 (KJV) says, “Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.” Knowledge here means knowing the mind of God on an issue of concern to you. When you get to know His mind then you apply it to your situation and then you can show it to others.
Many today either ignore or are not conversant with God’s word on the poor. Twice in the bible, it was revealed that there will always be poor people on the earth. First, Moses in Deuteronomy 15:11 (KJV) says, “For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in the land.” Moreso, Jesus, while in the home of a certain Simon, known as the leper, said to a disciple of His, “For ye have the poor with you always and whensoever ye will ye may do them good:” Mark 14:7a (KJV). Doing good to the poor is important as stated by Moses and our Lord Jesus Christ.
God cares about all souls. In fact, He said, “Behold, all souls are mine:” Ezekiel 18:4a (KJV). Whether rich or poor, all souls belongs to God. Besides, Christ died for all, both rich and poor. They have a special place in the mind of God. All we have to do is find out this mind of God on the poor and then you find yourself in the centre of the will of God for your own life.
Good works helps advance the Kingdom of God and ultimately brings glory to God. He takes note of those who assist the poor. Proverbs 19:17 (KJV) tells us more, “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.” This became the secret to Job’s wealth, “Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him” Job 29:12 (KJV). Cornelius, a centurion of the Italian band, got an angelic visitation because of his almsgiving to the poor (Acts 10:2-4). God takes note irrespective of who you are, whether a Christian or not.
Action Point: look around you and try give a helping hand to the poor and needy. Draw up a plan and make it permanent.
