…Spreading the gospel of Christ

TOPIC: DARE TO ACT ON GOD’S WORD

“And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.” – Matthew 14:29 (KJV)

When the disciples saw Jesus walking on water in Matthew 14, they were first scared, then they were flabbergasted. Jesus allayed their fears when He said, “… Be of good cheer. It is I; do not be afraid” Matthew 14:27 (KJV). For the other disciples, Jesus was putting up a great show but Peter was bold to say to Jesus, “… Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.” Mathew 14:28 (KJV). Peter knew that at Jesus’ command (God’s Word), he could also do the impossible if he would dare to act and he did. Peter walked on water.

The question is, “When Jesus tells you to step out of the comfort of your boat, will you trust him enough to act?” The comfort of the boat or the fear of the waves is what keeps many from experiencing the supernatural life of walking on the waters of God’s Word (i.e. doing the impossible). You actually don’t need too much theology to trust in the simple truth of God’s Word. Those who received from God in Jesus’ earth walk weren’t ‘so’ intelligent. They were only brave enough to trust in the Word of God and act upon it.

Peter was a man who always dared to act upon God’s Word. The first time he met Jesus, he had given Jesus his boat to preach after a frustrated and fruitless fishing expedition. Jesus said to Peter, “… Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” Though frustrated Peter replied, “… Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless, AT YOUR WORD I WILL LET DOWN THE NET.” The Bible says, “And when they had DONE THIS, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking” Luke 5:5-6 (KJV). Peter didn’t just admire the Word, he acted! He did what the Word said to do because he believed. This is the kind of faith that produces miracles. Dare to act upon God’s Word today and come forth with a personal testimony of God’s faithfulness.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your unfailing Word. I receive grace to act on Your Word in Jesus Name.
