…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: Psalm 57,58,59; Romans 4

“Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast” Psalm 57:1 (KJV)

Watching birds take their chicks under their wings and feathers is one sight that still fascinates me till date. The young goes in and remain in there for long periods under the watchful eyes of their mother. The wings and feathers help keep the chicks warm and comfortable and serves as shelter for them. During that period, the mother is totally responsible for the protection of the chicks. The same way these birds protect their young, the same way God protects His people.

David understood what it meant to be under the protective covering of God Almighty. He was one time the most wanted man in Israel. He was looked for all over the place by King Saul who was always on his heels. Saul made it clear to all that any who harbours David has challenged his throne. Who would want to challenge a King who is widely seen as next to God Amighty? Yet, David survived the King’s manhaunt for one reason: He cried to God Almighty and was conscious of His protective covering. That was why he could say: “Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.” Psalm 57:1 (KJV).

Jesus said in John 16:33 (GOODNEWS), “… the world will make you suffer…” The system of things today are making many pass through trial and sorrow but just like David, if we are conscious of God and trust in Him we will overcome. In fact, the scriptures says in Isaiah 26:4 (GOODNEWS), “Trust in the LORD forever; he will always protect us.” But why should we trust in God to protect us under His wings?

The bible tells us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). John 3:16 (KJV) says, “ For God so loved the word…” God loves you. He considers you so valuable that He gave His best for you. You are priceless! So you can understand the meaning of Psalm 36:7 (GOODNEWS), “How precious, O God, is your constant love! We find protection under the shadow of your wings.” Be conscious of this constant love of God and consciously stay under His protective wings.

Prayer: Dear Father, I thank You for taking me under the shadow of Your wings. I asked for grace to always be mindful of Your covering all the days of my life in Jesus name.
