Topic: Circumcised Heart
Bible Reading: Psalm 65-67; Romans 2.
Memory Verse: “But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.” Romans 2:29 (KJV) .
Physical circumcision is the removal of the foreskin of the private part of a human being. Usually, it often refers to a man but generally can apply to either sex. While that of man is still seen as acceptable, that of woman is often referred to in modern times as female genital mutilation and seen as offensive to womanhood.
On the other hand circumcision of the heart is an inner transformation where a person’s heart is purified, allowing them to embrace humility, faith, hope and love. It signifies a turning away from self-centeredness and sin and a turning towards God and His will. This internal change is considered more important than physical circumcision as a sign of covenant with God.
Thus, parading oneself as being a born again, water baptized who attends church regularly counts for nothing if your character does not produce the fruit of the Spirit such as love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance as stated in Galatians 5:22-23. So, it is not just knowing the things of God that matters but living by them. This is why Romans 2:13 (KJV) says, “For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.” This is why you should examine yourself continuously whether you are living what you profess as a child of God. So many Christians have become hypocrites professing Christ but living a life contrary to His teachings. This is why Apostle Paul says in Romans 2:21-23 (KJV), “Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? [22] Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? [23] Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?”
So you that preaches forgiveness, when you are faced with a situation where your neighbour offends you in a manner that you suffer some significant losses, do you forgive them or you keep that in your heart brooding over your losses? As a true Christian you will forgive such a person because that is what the word of God says! Thus, Christianity is about practical living and not just having knowledge of God. The Bible says in Romans 2:29 (KJV), “But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.” You need to live a life of Christ and not just preach about Him.
Prayer: Father, let my character and not just my appearance, reflect the life of a true child of God in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
