Bible Reading: Isaiah 22 – 23; Ephesians 3
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” – Psalms 90:12
Contrary to what many think, success doesn’t come by the multitude of activities that we engage in rather it starts with our ability to think through and plan around any desired purpose. Jesus said Luke 14:28, “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?” The first thing to do in order to succeed in any endeavour is to sit down and reflect. Jesus goes further to say, “Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him”, – Luke 14:29. This means that the actions that we undertake and fail to finish is because it wasn’t first thought through.
Moses, the writer of our text wasn’t saying that God should teach us how to count our days like some suppose because you really do not need God to teach you how to count your days. Many who don’t know God can tell how old they are. What our text is actually saying is, “teach us to SCHEDULE our days…” Planning with God is key to winning in life.
God through the Holy Spirit can literally teach you how to ‘schedule’ or ‘plan’ your day so that you can be more productive. The Holy Spirit will teach you how to plan your day, week, month or year and when He does, it becomes easy to practically walk with that plan. Wisdom is walking with God’s plan. Moses refers to it as, “… applying your heart to wisdom.”
Quiet time is not the time to just bring your plans to God and ask Him to bless it, it is more about God giving you His plans that are blessed. Proverbs 19:21 says, “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.”
You don’t have to wear yourself out trying to succeed in your own strength. Before you get into a busy day/month/year, take time out every day in prayer to wait upon God, meditate on His Word and make sure to keep a pen and paper by your side so you can write down the things He brings to your mind concerning your life, relationships, business, career etc This way you cannot fail in Jesus name.
Prayer: Thank You Father because Your plans for my life are of good to give me a future and hope.
