Topic: Error of the wicked
Bible Reading: Ezekiel 45-46; 2 Peter 3
Memory Verse: “Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.” 2 Peter 3:17 (KJV)
The error of wickedness is the fundamental error in judgment, belief and behaviour which include a belief in self sufficiency and a path of deliberate sin and deception. It is also a warning for believers to guard against the seductive influence of false teachings and immoral conduct that lead away from the truth of God’s word. Thus, some believers are misinterpreting the words of Apostle Paul believing that once saved they no longer need to live a life of holiness and this is what Apostle Peter points out clearly that those who have these erroneous belief do so to their own destruction. ( 2 Peter 3:14-16). Thus, he is admonishing believers not to fall for such errors. He writes in 2 Peter 3:17 (KJV), “Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.”
This is why you should read your Bible and meditate on it so that you will know the truth and will not be swayed by false doctrines to go astray. The devil is looking for ways to tempt believers and cause them to fall so that they may lose their election and each one needs to be on guard. Remember, the devil tempted our Lord Jesus and He defeated him by the word of God. So, you need to know the word such that when the enemy comes, you have ready-made answers in your heart to respond. 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV) admonishes you to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
This is why it’s important to recognise that no man can survive on his own in this life, you need the support of the Holy Spirit to win the life wars. That is why God has sent the Holy Ghost to help us in times of need. “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26 (KJV). So if you think you can handle this life by yourself and try everything by your strength, you will be committing an error of wickedness as that will mean taking God out of the equation of your life.
It is this error that leads people to commit sins and they justify it by grace but Apostle Paul says in Romans 6:15-16 (KJV), “What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. [16] Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” This is why constant fellowship with the Lord is essential as this will help you to detest sinful habits and to run away from them which is why you are admonished to pray without ceasing and also live a life of holiness without which no man can see the Lord! ( Hebrews 12:14).
Prayer point: Father, please give me continuous understanding of your word so that I may not fall into error of wickedness in Jesus name.
