…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: 1 Chro. 29; Phil 1:16-3

“Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the Lord God.” – 1 Chronicles 29:1 (KJV)

Yesterday, we spoke about what God says to us on various issues of our life. Today we will like to be  specific on our choice of Leadership successor.

A number of times, we try to choose for ourselves based on what we consider the best given our knowledge and experience. The truth is that our choice is limited based on history and little idea of what may happen in future. This is why it is better to let one with the knowledge of the past, present and future choose for you. The bible tells us in Hebrews 13:8 (KJV): “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

Since he never change, his choice would have considered all the issues involved in the past, present and future. This explains why God chose David instead of one of his brothers; Eliab, Abinadab, or Shammah in 1 Samuel 16:1-14. While most people would have chosen any of his elder brothers based on their physical appearance, (even prophet Samuel thought they were the right ones to choose), God chose David because he knew his capabilities and potentials which were not known to others. This is also the reason why God chose Solomon instead of other sons of David to rule Israel. This is confirmed in 1 Chronicles 29:1 (KJV): “Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the Lord God.”

When we as Christians therefore need to choose a leader whether to lead ourselves, to lead others or to take over mantle of leadership from us, we should seek the face of God on who to choose. Thus when it is time for us to elect people in our nation, we should ensure we seek the face of God for who should be voted for out of all the candidates irrespective of who we think may be the best candidate.

David stated in the latter part of our memory verse that the palace belongs to God! So every position of authority belongs to God and we should work towards enthroning only the choice of God by asking Him who he wants in that position. This is our duty as children of God.

Action point:
Ensure you seek the face of God on who your next leader should be and do your part by ensuring you get your voting card or authority to exercise your right in addition to praying for his choice.
