TOPIC: GOD’S LOVE PERSONIFIED IN JESUS CHRIST

Bible Reading: Jeremiah 33-35; Titus 3

“But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared. Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” Titus 3:4-5 (KJV).

The kindness and love of God stated in our focal verse of scripture today came through Jesus Christ who is the personification of God’s love and incarnation of God’s Word. (John 3:16 and John 1:1-3). God’s love came to us in the incarnated being of Jesus Christ and suffered the shame and humiliation to accomplish our redemption at Calvary. His mercy was abundantly made available to us by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Ghost.

When we get born again two things transpires. The word of God is spoken to us and the Holy Ghost moves in to use the word we receive to search through the inward being for every element of sin, thereby convicting us and leading to our subsequent repentance of our sins. “The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly” Proverbs 20:27 (KJV). The whole of this process is started and finished by God through the instrumentality of His Word and Spirit, hence, it is by the mercy of or rather by His grace not by our work of righteousness. We became recipients of His divine love not because we asked for it or are righteous, but His Love and Mercy was made manifest for our redemption. The Love of God is vast and immeasurable and it transcends all human knowledge. “And to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge…” Ephesians 3:19a (KJV). God’s love is too deep to be fully comprehended by man. The fullness of God’s love can be stated as being boundless in breadth, endless in length, fathomless and exhaustless in depth and measureless in height. All that is included in breadth, length, depth and height is submerged in the immensity of the love of God which comprehends all that is above, below and past, present and future. It encompasses the multiverse, and time and eternity. It reaches to the depth of sin and infamy, to the height of the infinite divinity. It passes all knowledge and wisdom. God’s gift to man is the measure of His love (John 3:16), the death of Christ is the measure of His love (Romans 5:5-10) and the condescension of the Holy Spirit to transform men and work in their lives is the measure of the love of the Spirit to man. It is the acceptance of God’s love that produce our justification by grace and our being made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This love of God that appeared through the incarnate Word also brought with it the gift of immortality to man. “But is made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” 2 Timothy 1:10(KJV).

Dear reader, God’s love gave Christ to humanity. Rejecting God is tantamount to rejecting God’s love. You only have one option left which is God’s judgment. I implore you today to choose God’s love and live. Acceptance of Christ into your life is the acceptance of God’s love which will exonerate you from judgment and destruction.

Prayer: Father, engrace me to perpetually remain in your kindness and love.

Pastor Joel Ezeugo
