…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: Ezekiel 42, 43, 44, 1 John 1.

“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:” – 1 John 1:6 (KJVS)

Fellowship means friendly association, especially with people who share one’s interests. We are created for fellowship. Hence, God said about Adam, before Eve was created, in Genesis 2:18 (KJVS), “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” So Eve was created so that man could have fellowship with other being. However the kind of person you have fellowship with will influence your behaviour and may determine how you end up in life. Thus the fellowship of Eve with the Serpent in Gen 3:1-6 led to her eating the forbidden fruit. Subsequently, the fellowship of Adam with Eve led to Adam also partaking of a fruit that God has said they should not eat. Genesis 3:6 (KJVS) shows this succinctly: “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
This is why God specifically states that we should not have fellowship with works of darkness so that we would not be corrupted. Ephesians 5:11 (KJVS): “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them .” So who do you fellowship with? It is important you watch those who you choose as your counsellors and mentors so that you do not end up being in the wrong camp. A number of people end up joining the occultic through fellowship with friends that are not suspected to be dangerous. By the time they know, they would have been so influenced such that they end up thinking; what is good for the goose is also good for the gander! But that will be contrary to the word of God which is clearly stated by Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJVS), “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” This is why Christians are enjoined not only to fellowship with fellow Christians but more importantly with God.

The Almighty desires our fellowship and wants us to be in constant dialogue with him so that we may be like him. That’s why He says in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJVS), “Pray without ceasing.” As you do this, you will be in constant touch with him and have little time for the kingdom of darkness. In such circumstance you will always be in the light because God is light! (1 John 1:5.) This is why the next verse, 1 John 1:6 (KJVS) says, “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:”

So brethren, lets constantly fellowship with God as that will not only keep us away from darkness but also keep us on the right path, in peace and in joy (Rom 14:17) thus leading us to the fulfillment of our destiny!

Action Point:
Praise God for a minimum of one hour today and constantly ask yourself if Jesus would do whatever you find yourself doing all through today.
