Bible Reading: Genesis 6-8; Matthew 3
“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5 (KJV)
The heart of man is so important to God. It is the part of man that determine where a person ends in life. A heart that is continually evil has failed. Such a heart cannot successfully go back to God. Genesis 6:5 (KJV) says, “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” He goes on to say in Genesis 6:7 (KJV), “And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.” A failed heart when allowed to continue will recreate another of his kind. That was the situation in Noah’s day.
The bible urges us in Proverbs 4:3 (NKJV), “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.” This scripture implies that whatever we allow to enter our hearts, if not examined and evaluated properly, will undoubtedly be expressed in our lives and our actions – in positive or negative ways. Remember, as a man thinks in his heart so is he (Proverbs 23:7a).
To keep or maintain a heart that resonates with God you must continually feed on and practice the word of God. In fact, Phillipians 4:8 (NKJV) tells us what to dwell on, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–meditate on these things.”
The heart is either imagining evil or seeking God. It is your duty to keep your heart healthy. Make the choice today to guard your heart by meditating on the things of God.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the grace to meditate on Your word. Help me to take full advantage of this in Jesus name.
