…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 03/04/2023

Bible Reading: Judges 10-11; Luke 9:1-36

Memory Verse: “He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.” Luke 9:20 (KJV)

Jesus is several things to several people. Some see him as their healer, provider and defender. Others see him as way-maker, miracle-worker, promise-keeper and light in the darkness. Some others see him in a different light. But whichever way you see him, there is a common denominator to everyone who truly believes in Jesus Christ. That is being our Saviour. He came to save us from the consequences of our sins (Matthew 1:21). And to be saved, you have to repent of your sins, confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and Saviour and believe in your heart that Jesus rose from the dead. ( Romans 10:9).

Now what does it mean to be saved? It means all your sins have been forgiven and the punishment for those sins have been paid for by Jesus Christ. Furthermore, God takes special notice of you as you then become his child. A new heart is given to you immediately and a new Spirit is also put in you and your stony heart is replaced by a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26). This implies that that you have now become a new creature. ( 2 Cor 5:17). So the Holy Spirit is now dwelling in you as a disciple of Christ and you are now set apart for God. Then you can begin to do those things you were unable to do before because you have become a new person. You now have the Holy Spirit as your enabler and nothing is impossible with you. Why? Because your Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ can do all things. That’s why Philippians 4:13 KJV says “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

But you must continue to obey Jesus Christ in all you do. This is made possible because of the Holy Spirit now resident in you. And all you need is to ensure you follow the prompting of this Spirit in you. Furthermore, you are expected to study your Bible so that you can know more about your new Lord and Saviour. The more you know him and obey him, the more you be like him and in any case where you disobeyed him, he is ready to forgive once you go to him and show remorse and ask for mercy with a decision to forsake the sin. Proverbs 28:13 (KJV) says “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”

So you need to know him well as he is interested in your knowing him for who he is. That’s why he said to his disciples in Luke 9:20 KJV “He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.” He is asking you the same question today!

Action Point: Praise the Lord Jesus this morning by calling him the various names He is to you.
