Topic: My Help and My Deliverer
Bible Reading: Psalm 70-72; Romans 4.
Memory Verse: “But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.” Psalm 70:5 (KJV) .
We all need help at one time or the other and the best person to turn to is God. But there are a number of issues concerning seeking help from God. First you need to align with Him to get the required help. The greater challenge is that most people do not take their relationship with God very seriously until they need His help and then they realise He is not as near and they keep wandering why is He not attending to them urgently. The Bible says in Isaiah 55:6 (KJV), “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:”
When you have a cordial relationship with God, He will always be around you. That’s why Psalm 91:1 (KJV) says, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” So how do you dwell in God’s secret place? Its by fellowshipping with Him regularly. When you study your Bible and worship God regularly and live a life that pleases Him by yielding continually to the leading of the Holy Spirit, then you know you are abiding under God’s shadow. In such cases before you call Him, He will hear and while you are yet speaking, He knows what you are speaking because the Holy Spirit is the one leading you.
However if you are an enemy of God as we studied yesterday, then you will need to repent of your sins, ask for mercy before your cries can ascend to the throne of God. Remember “The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.” Proverbs 15:29 (KJV).
So if you cry like the psalmist in Psalm 70:5 (KJV), “But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.” expect immediate response if you are not an enemy of God. But if you are, change your prayer, confess your sins to Him, repent and ask for mercy. He will attend to you.
Action Point:
Examine yourself if you are an enemy of God and change your position by repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
