…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 03/09/2019

TOPIC: QUICK UNDERSTANDING
Bible Reading: Psalm 140, 141, 142; 1 Corinthians 14:1-20.

“Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men” – 1 Corinthians 14: 20 (KJV).

One of the characteristics of children is poor understanding. Children are highly gullible and so they can easily be deceived. Their lack of understanding is a function of their lack of knowledge. It is possible to be an adult but yet like a child in understanding.

Being a man is not just function of gender, size or age but a function of maturity, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Children or immature people judge things by sight or outward appearance. What they often fail to understand is that appearance could be deceptive because things are not always the way they appear outwardly. There is more to things than appeals to the eyes.

Mature people walk by faith and not by sight. They are guided by wisdom and knowledge. Mature people are led by the Holy Spirit and the word. “For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God” – Romans 8:14 (KJV).

Apostle Paul admonished the Corinthian church not to be children in understanding. Children are highly gullible, they lack spiritual insight. He, however admonished them to be children in malice. Children do not keep malice. They easily forgive and forget or let go. Children do not keep record of hurt or wrong done to them. They can be easily pacified and be carried along without malice or bitterness; hence, Apostle Paul admonished the church to be children in malice. Prophet Isaiah described Jesus to be of quick understanding; “And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of the eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of the ear” – Isaiah 11:2-3 (KJV).

PRAYER: Dear Lord, make me of quick understanding to make right choices and decisions in life.
