Bible Reading: Ezekiel 45, 46, 1 John 2.
Memory Verse: “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.” 1 John 2:3 (KJV)
I heard of a young child who went to church and the latches of his shoes were loose. Then he met a young man who knelt down to knot the latches. When he got home, he told his parents that he met Jesus in the church and when they asked him how he knew it was Jesus, he told them what the man did to him.
The action of the young man was what the child expected Jesus to do in the circumstance. What is expected therefore is that anybody who is a true follower of Jesus should know him. And how do we confirm your knowledge of him? 1 John 2:3 (KJV) tells us, “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.” But you cannot obey what you don’t know. So the beginning of a relationship with Christ is the knowledge of him. And John 1:1 (KJV) says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” So studying and obeying the word of God means studying and obeying Jesus Christ.
So how well do you know and follow the word of God indicates how well you know Jesus. 1 John 2:5 (KJV) reiterates this; “But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”
This means you know Jesus if you do those things that Jesus would do in the circumstance including bearing the fruit of the Spirit which is made up of nine parts as stated in Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV), “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
So the barometer of your knowing him is how well you bear the fruit of the Spirit.
Action Point: Check your area of disobedience to the word of God and take action, physical and spiritual to ensure obedience.
