Topic: Becoming a man of Honour

Bible Reading: Daniel 1-2; 1 John 2.

Memory Verse: “Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.” Daniel 2:46 (KJV)

King Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon at a time when Babylon was the supreme power in that part of the world. Daniel, a man with deep revelations from God said of Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2:37-38 (KJV), “Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. [38] And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.”

Now this world leader had a problem, a dream he could not understand and he relied on men to solve this challenge. This indicates that whatever your level in life, you will have your own challenge and you are expected to use what is available to you to solve that challenge. Nebuchadnezzar called on his advisers for a solution and that became a challenge to them as they did not have the solution to the king’s problem. But a wise adviser amongst them, Daniel, called on God Almighty for the solution and he got it.

The greater lesson from the approach of Daniel is that when he got from God what men had thought was impossible, “Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.” Daniel 2:46 (KJV). He became a man of honour instantly.

Some years ago, a bank in Nigeria had a major problem such that it was unable to meet its obligations and kept on recording loses. So, it sought the help of a consultant who invited me to join him on the assignment. After we consulted for the Chairman who was also the Chief Executive of the bank, we told him he needed a Treasurer and he told my head consultant, that he wanted me to take that role! Well after a few discussions, I accepted the role, joined the bank, was reporting to an Executive Director as a Senior Manager and a few months down the line, the bank made good profit and was also having improved liquidity, the Chairman honoured me even above my boss because of the result I achieved for the bank! At that time, I was not a Christian but God showed me that you may be highly honoured once you provide solutions to the needs of people!

Do you want to be a man of honour, go to God in prayer and seek solutions to the various problems of the world. Be specific in your request, diligent and have faith in the ability of God to provide you with the required solution and He will come to your aid. But after providing you with the solution, you must remain steadfast in your faith and obedient to God otherwise, you may not get the next opportunity that God has planned for you.

Prayer point: Father, give me the grace to be obedient to you at all times in Jesus name.
