Genesis 8,9; Matthew 4
“And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was afterward a hungred” Matthew 4:2 (KJV)
Our Lord Jesus Christ showed us the way to go when preparing for important kingdom matters. He had to fast for forty days and forty nights in other build himself spiritually for the task ahead – the reason why He came to the earth.
Fasting is hungering for God, asking Him to guide and lead us in the way to go. Fasting helps us align to the sensitivity of the Spirit. It does not give us a miracle neither does it change God. But it draws you nearer to God as it calibrates your soul to be submissive to His leading.
Fasting empowered Jesus for the journey ahead. He was so anointed that He blew the devil away when he tempted Him with food, among others. Jesus pointed out that “..man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God “ Luke 4:4 (KJV). You need the word of God for direction in every area of your life.
We are in the beginning of a new year. We must put and seek God first for direction on where to go this year, what to do, and how to go about it. When you fast you begin to hear the voice of God as you begin to feel differently and hear differently. Moses, Ezra and many men of old fasted for direction and God showed up. As we do same, God will show up. Remember, He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
Action Plan: You can decide to join your church in the fast already set for the year or personally draw up a plan. But you must read the scriptures, books by anointed men of God and pray while fasting.
