Bible Reading: Genesis 9-11; Matthew 4
Memory verse: “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Matthew 4:10 (KJV)
The above scriptural verse is the reply given to Satan by our Lord Jesus when the father of lies attempted to get Jesus, the word of God, to bow down and worship him. Satan wants and desires to be everything God is but can never be. He desired the throne of God and saw himself being worshipped, thus getting him kicked out of heaven.
Worship is reverence, praise, and putting God first in everything we do. It involves loving Him with our soul, mind and spirit. God created man so that we can worship him and call on Him and praise Him. Worship also involves obeying the one you claim to worship. In fact, obedience is an essential part of worship. The one you obeyed you have bowed to.
Obedience can either be to God or to the enemy, satan. Somehow, the devil shifted the mind of the first humans into obeying him thereby losing all that were rightfully theirs to the devil. When they obeyed him they automatically submitted themselves to his Lordship and rulership. This was the same tactics he wanted to use against our Saviour Jesus Christ. But Jesus already knew himself.
Be conscious of so called simple acts of reverence rendered to any other person except God. Through these acts the devil may take over the lives of people with their crown. His quest is to be worshipped was what got him kicked out of heaven in the first place. He is still at it having vowed to turn all souls away from serving their maker.
As long as we remain on earth in this body there will always be a fight to be faithful in our worship to God. The enemy tries to take advantage of periods when our flesh is weak to tempt us to give up our worship to God.
