TOPIC: FORGIVENESS (PART 2)
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 8-9; Luke 23:39-56
Memory verse: “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:9 (KJV)
Confession of our sins qualifies one for forgiveness. As we acknowledge our unrighteousness and sins before God, He is sure to clothe us with His own righteousness. Jesus, in today’s bible reading gives us further lessons on forgiveness. Remember, He only does what He sees the Father doing.
While on the cross alongside two criminals one of whom hurled insults at Him. But the other rebuked him and said, “…Dost thou not fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly: but this man hath done nothing amiss” Luke 22:40-41 (KJV). Confession of our sins is a prerequisite to receiving forgiveness from God. The criminal confessed his sins before Jesus Christ.
Just as the scriptures said in 1 John 1:9 (KJV), “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”, Jesus forgave him in a manner never heard of before, Luke 23:43 (KJV) tell us, “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” The criminal was given a ticket to heaven by virtue of him confessing his sin before Jesus.
Forgiveness from God is important to live a fulfilled life here on earth. Without forgiveness the kingdom of darkness will consume so many people. Our Creator, however, created us for a reason and therefore wishes to see all live out the purpose for their lives.
It does not take God anything to forgive, just be open and willing to confess your sins and God will do the rest.
Prayer: Father, I confess my sins before You today. Please forgive me and help me not to go back to them anymore in Jesus name.
