Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 8: 1-17
“Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil” Ecclesiastes 8:11(KJV).
Most times, it appears that God is too slow in his judgment. It may appear like he has lost control of things or that he is unaware of the atrocities and wickedness on earth.
From human perspective, God often appears unfair in his judgment of people or in his approach to issues of life. We live in a world that people do very wicked things and appear to get away with them because of delayed judgment or justice. We feel that justice delayed is justice denied. A lecturer will fail a committed Christian sister simply because she refuses to go to bed with him and still win the case. Robbers will rob a family of their hard earned money and rape the mother and the daughters and escape judgment. All these make people demoralized, lose faith in God and resort to devilish ways to solve their problems. It appears that wicked people live longer than good people.
When we see things in the light of this present life without eternity in view, it may appear that God and life itself are unfair. If instant judgment is given for wickedness and evil is judged and punished as soon as they are committed, we will feel differently. But it is not often so. Justice could be delayed even till the one seeking justice dies. This have given the wicked the feelings that they can do anything and get away with it. So many people have more faith in shrines and juju priests than they have in God.
The truth is that life does not end here; there is eternity to face and there is account to give when this life is over. God in his mercy gives sinners opportunities to repent. The delay in judgment is not denial of justice.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to have faith in you.
