TOPIC: THE LIGHT THAT SHINES
Bible Reading: Isaiah 29-30; Ephesians 6
“And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” – John 1:5 (KJV)
The Bible makes no mistake when it comes to the identity of the new creation in Christ Jesus. He calls and tells the believer to walk as light. Ephesians 5:8 says, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
As a child of God, like Jesus, you are the light that shines in the world of darkness. Jesus confidently declared in John 8:12, “… I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.” It is important to note what Jesus said in this verse. He didn’t say that God’s light shines through Him rather He says that He is the Light.
Jesus in His earth walk said He is the Light that God shines in the world of darkness. Since darkness connotes confusion, fear, anxiety, evil and death, Jesus was saying that He is the answer – the Light – to all forms of darkness. Look at Jesus’ life and all you see is the healing, joy, deliverance and miracles that people experienced because He is the Light.
In the same way Jesus calls us light. He said in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Notice Jesus said we are the light. We are the bringers of hope to the hopeless. We are the solution. We are the answer to darkness and as light we shine! Our text says that light shines and darkness cannot ‘understand’ it. We demystify the odds and everywhere we go, we just shine.
It is important to know that as a child of God, He is not just shining His light through you. You are not the medium through which His light shines rather you are the very light that He shines into the darkness. We’re exactly like Jesus was in His earth walk. You are the light that shines! This is the truth and consciousness that you must walk with everyday of your life and that starts today.
Declare: I am the light of God that shines because I carry Christ Jesus in me.
