TOPIC : JESUS STILL SPEAKS TODAY
Bible Reading: Jeremiah 38-39; Hebrews 1
“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds” Hebrews 1:1-2(KJV)
It is necessary to properly dissect the above focal scripture of the day in order to gain proper understanding. The verses recognized two periods of history namely: – (1) The time past and (2) These last days. It also recognized two set of speakers; the prophets and His (God) Son. The passage also clearly defined and state the superiority of one to another, viz-a-viz, the prophets and His Son Whom He (God) has appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the world. From here we deduce that by His Son He made the worlds which also include the prophets. From the birth of Christ to date is considered the Dispensation of Grace and is referred to as the Last days. It is also referred to as the dispensation of the fullness of time (Ephesians 1:10). In Galatians 4:4-5 (KJV) the bible has these to say, “But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, and made under the Law. To redeem them that were under the Law, that might receive the adoption of sons.”
The entrance of Christ into the world can be referred to as the fullness of the time which commenced the beginning of the last days. The prophets were humans that receive message from God to man, but due to the limitation of man the word sent to us through them can be distorted and sometimes misleading. The impurity in the human vessel makes it very susceptible to error and can affect the clear message of God. However, in our dispensation God spoke directly through His Son whose perfect nature of sinless disposition makes His speaking clear, perfect and impeccable. The message of Christ spoken to us in the scripture is unambiguous and clear, though most times in parables. Christ came to deliver to us undiluted words of the Father, “For I have not spoken of myself; but of the Father which sent me, He gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak” John 12:49 (KJV). Embedded in the Word of Christ is God’s divine attribute and power, hence Christ will say in John 6:63(KJV), “It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
The Words of Jesus are creative, transformational and translational. Creative: The bibles says that by the Word of God were all things made (John 1:1-3). Transformational: In Romans 12:2 (KJV) the bible says, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”. Translational: In Colossians 1:13(KJV) the bible says, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son”. All these operations are achievable through the written and spoken word of God which as stated by Jesus Christ are spirit and life. The word is given life through the operation of the Holy Spirit who is the Comforter and Spirit of Truth, thereby empowering its creative, transformative and translational power in us.
