Bible Reading: Psalm 11, 2 Peter 2: 1 – 7
“And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly:” 2 Peter 2:5(KJV)
A lot has been said about the second coming of Christ, the Armageddon, and the destruction of the world by fire etc., etc. Sceptics and doubters have made mockery of these issues. Some Christian religious organizations have put up strong teaching against the veracity of these Christian beliefs. Apostle Peter asserted the authenticity of the events that took place in the old world and in Sodom and Gomorrha. Like in our time the people that lived in those days were warned but were blinded and deafened by their sins. When what they were warned of came it was like a dream. Someone stated that “history repeats itself but not with mathematical exactitude”. The events of the days of Noah is about to repeat itself not in the destruction of the world by flood but having the same picture of a terrible world of sin and unbelief. The bible recorded that Noah for one hundred years was telling the people of his days of the impending disaster but they paid deaf ears. It took Noah one hundred years to build the ark. For all these times the people of his days listened to him narrate his God sent message of destroying the world with water because of sin, yet they lived carelessly. The bible said in Genesis 6:11(KJV) “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence”. Let us pause for a moment and imagine what the state of the people was when the reality of the flood dawned on them and it was too late seeing that the Ark was already afloat. Christ gave us a glimpse of this in Luke 17: 26-27(KJV) “And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all”.
Everywhere I go preaching the gospel I marvel at the level of unbelief and carelessness people live with. Some even made jest and mockery of preachers calling them names. When I see people behaving in such manner I reflect on what would have happened to Noah. He must have been mocked and called a fool. Noah must have heard clearly from God to be able to withstand the emotional strain the the mockery of men would have caused him. However, the day of his glory came when he was instructed by God to enter and close the ark. The bible said “and the flood came, and destroy them all”. What a pity! After being warned for such a long time, people allowed careless living and sin to waste them in the flood. Can you imagine the number of had-I-known sobs and cries of anguish that would have been on earth as the height of water continue to rise and there was no place to run to?
My dear reader, whether you believe it or not, Christ is coming very soon. You have nothing to lose but much to gain if you repent of your sins and accept Jesus, who is the ark of these last days, into your life. Make hay while the sun shines. Procrastination can be very deadly. Christ is coming to take his own out of this wicked world that will be destroyed by the fervent heat of God’s righteousness. I sincerely urge you to surrender your life to Christ now before it is too late.
Prayer: Father, today I thank you for my redemption through Jesus Christ my Lord. Thank you for making me a recipient of so great a salvation.
