Bible Reading: Proverbs 9: 1-18
“If thou be wise , thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest , thou alone shall bear it” – Proverbs 9:12(KJV).
Wisdom is defined by Longman Active study Dictionary, 5th edition, as “the ability to use your knowledge and experience of life to make good decisions and give good advice.” The world we live require taking decision for our lives. We take decision on which school to go, which place to settle, what type of work we should get involved with, where should we be at a given time, who to marry, the number of children to have etc.
Equally, when we attain a particular age and by virtue of our contributions to the society, people tend to look up to us for advice. Some have received advice and are better for it while some others have received a piece of advice and are bitting their fingers. This reminds us of Rehoboam (1 Kings 12) who took the counsel of young men at the expense of the well laced wise counsel of old men to his own detriment.
In the days of Solomon, Queen of Sheba heard of his fame concerning the name of the LORD. She came to prove him with hard questions (1 kings 10:1). After all she asked was answered, her remark reads thus: “Happy are your men! Happy are these your servants who stands continually before you hearing your wisdom.” – 1 Kings 10:8(KJV).
The Lord is looking earnestly for a vessel that would carry the wisdom that would resolve issues of life. For that to happen, the following must be in place:
- You must have the fear of the LORD.
- You have a teachable spirit.
- You must stay away from the path of the fool.
The only enduring asset that a man can possess in this passing world is WISDOM which comes with the fear of the LORD. Do you fear God? Have you developed a relationship with Him through His Son? Hurry, for delay is dangerous and disastrous!
Prayer: Lord, equip me with wisdom in this passing world.
