Memery verse: ‘Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth’ Matthew 5:5 (KJV)
Meekness is humility; it is the submission of out soul to God. When you submit to God he begins to entrust you with His powers and unviels his ways to you. Meek people don’t envy, don’t retaliate, and exercise patience in the face of adversity. They show joy and happiness under dire circumstances. No matter what happens in the world around them, they hold on to God’s provision and plan for their lives.
Meekness is one virtue that is needed to live long or be in charge here on earth. Meek people are the people that God can trust with real power to control the affairs that goes on here on earth on His behalf. Remember, God’s ways are different from ours. Anyone who comes with the ways of God is automatically different and stands to be resisted by the authorities of the day. Let’s look at bible instances.
The bible says, “(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)” Numbers 12:3 (KJV). This scriptural verse came up shortly afer Moses was spoken against by those closest to him, Mirim and Aaron. God Himself took over the matter and punished Miriam. Moses was criticised several times by the same people he risked his life to save from Egypt. The Israelites complained bitterly and at one point that God was fed up and asked Moses to give way and let him destroy His own people (Exodus 32:9-11) .
Moses’ reply was touching. He pleaded with God over the people, reminding Him of His promises to their forefathers. And God turned around from destroying them (Exodus 32:11-14). Meekness gave Moses the strength to pray for his people in the midst of criticisms.
Meekness is the ability to cool down every fire, every heat that is thrown at you from the outside. Meekness is being in charge of what gets into your emotions. It is like placing a gate on your emotions such that these offences don’t penetrate your inner being. Getting upset for days over something is a sign of depleted Meekness. Jesus was Meekness personified. He says in Matthew 11:29 (KJV), “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” Even while on the cross He prayed for those who gave Him up to be killed (Luke 23:34). No wonder death and the grave could not hold him down.
Remember, the body is made up of dust and if you don’t understand meekness you may lose that body fast. How? If you get offended easily and never let go, you will start emiting negative energies that are toxic to your own body. But with meekness, you let offences go and pray for those who persecute you thereby taking charge of your environment and yourself.
Prayer: Dear Father, I receive grace this day to walk in meekness after the other of Christ in Jesus name.
