BIBLE READING: 1 KINGS 10-11, LUKE 24: 1-35
Memory Verse: “Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant”. 1 Kings 11:11 (KJV).
The young man Solomon was greatly loved and favored by God being that he was the one chosen out of all King David’s sons to be the next king to rule. Not only that, he was preferred above his father, King David to build a temple for the Lord. What a great honour. God had so much expectation from Solomon and so He blessed him beyond measure making him the wisest and richest man that ever lived, only requesting his continued obedience to His commandments.
After the building of the temple, God appeared to Solomon a second time (another rare priviledge) and made him a promise to establish the throne of his kingdom forever as promised to King David. 1 Kings 9:5-9 (KJV). However, God equally warned of the consequences of disobedience and it was a matter of choice. But, sadly, King Solomon chose to go against all he was commanded to do by following after strange gods and marrying strange women. Solomon turned his heart away from God and God became angry with him. God took away the kingdom from him and Solomon lost the great opportunity of a life time.
When we deliberately go against the will of God, we lose opportunities. In God’s words are promises for us and our responsibility is to keep being obedient to His will. Many have lost great opportunities to receive God’s unfailing promises to them due to disobedience. Our eyes must be fixed on God alone. Solomon started well but deviated along the line. He had a great opportunity but he lost it. May we not end up like Solomon.
Prayer: Lord, help me to do your will always so as not to miss divine opportunities.
