Bible Reading: Job 30 & 31; Acts 13:27-52

“What will I do when God confronts me? What will I answer when called to account?” Job 31:4 (NIV)

One thing we all desire in life is God’s manifest presence. We all pray for it and ask for it. Divine presence is one of the greatest asset of a believer. David was a man who practically walked in divine presence. The Spirit of God came upon Him and walked with him till the end after he was anointed (1 Samuel 16:13). But despite the heavy presence of God upon him David made some bad choices and was held accountable by God.

First he killed Uriah, and took his wife, Bathsheba. God confronted him through His prophet Nathan. God forgave David immediately he (David) confessed his sin (2 Samuel 12:13). Thank God for His mercy which overrule all judgement against us. Please note that you will give account of your actions. David was a man on whom the Spirit of God was upon, yet made mistakes. It is one thing to have the Spirit, and another to allow Him lead.

But Nathan pointed out in 2 Samuel 12:14 (NLT), “But you have given the enemies of the LORD great opportunity to despise and blaspheme him….” Our sins don’t end with us; God’s enemies, who, otherwise would not approach Him, now have an opportunity to come accuse us before Him (Revelation 12:10; Job 1:6-11; Zech 3:1-3). The more I think of that part of inviting the enemies into our lives, the more I believe we need to think more before acting.

Job was aware of the giving-an-account part in his reply to his friends. He pleaded his innocence while stating he never wronged anyone because he knows he will give an account. You will give an account also. But God has made it easier for us. He has given us His Holy Spirit to dwell in us, and told us to look unto His Son, Jesus Christ, who never committed a sin while on earth, as an example to follow.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the grace to keep your Word in my heart
