…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 05/07/2023

Bible Reading: Job 31-32; Acts 13:1-23.

“If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit; Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity” Job 31:5-6 ( KJV)

In our today focal verses of scripture we see Job declaring unequivocally his uprightness by submitting himself to God to be weighed in His even balance. It takes a man who is clear of his stand with God to boldly declare such statement. Though He was passing through great adversity, he was clear of his standing with God and refuse to succumb to despair and self-pity. Job outrightly presented his integrity to his friends who considered his actions and statement as pride. However, God did not see it that way, and encourages His children to present their strong cases before the court of heaven. King Hezekiah presented his strong reasoning and was granted relief. “Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD. And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I worked before thee in truth and a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore” Isaiah 38: 2-3(KJV). God weighed Hezekiah’s claim and considered him faithful and justified.

In Daniel 5 we read of the story of king Belshazzar who erred in his actions against God. The scripture recorded in Daniel 5:27(KJV), “TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances and art found wanting.” Considering from the above analysis and example it is clear that as human beings our actions and deed are weighed to necessitate the actions of heaven. Before the heavenly court we are all put on a weight scale to determine actions to be taken against us or in our favour. God is a righteous Judge who compensates adequately our good and evil deeds. The scriptures state in Galatians 6:7(KJV), “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Every living being will be subject to their actions and be weighed. Hear what the scripture says “Talk no more so exceeding proud; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of Knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.” 1 Samuel 2:3(KJV). All our actions and deeds are accumulated and shall be weighed on the day of reckoning.

The question is not whether we shall be subject to been weighed but how will we weigh in God’s even balance. We all individually have a day of reckoning when we subject to been weighed in God’s even balance. How prepared are you for the day of reckoning? Every sin and evil deeds have attached weight to it, will your evil weight wipe away your good deeds? When Hezekiah presented his case, the weigh skewed positively in his favour. Will your weigh skew negatively like Belshazzar or will it skewed positively like that of Hezekiah? On the day of reckoning can you stand boldly and declare, like Job, as stated in our today’s focal scriptures?

Despite all said above one thing remain sure that our acceptance and submission to the Lordship of Jesus Christ frees us from these weight of sin and guilt. This is how the scripture puts it, “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all your trespasses. Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;” Colossians 2:13-14(KJV). The weight of sin and transgression we carry drops off from us when we come under the Lordship of Christ. Jesus Christ our Lord has already carried this weight to Calvary and dropped it there. Accept Him today and be relieved of your weight of sin and guilt.

Prayer: Father Give me the grace to live out my whole life completely submissive to your will.

Pastor Joel Ezeugo
